Jules Moigniez was a French animal sculptor, born on May 28, 1835, in Senlis and died on May 29, 1894, in Saint-Martin-du-Tertre. His father was a metal gilder. Moigniez was a student of Paul Comolera (1818-1897), a great sculptor specializing in birds. Like his teacher, he was also known for his sculptures on animal themes of birds, dogs, and horses, the latter being the rarest.
His works were presented at the Salon from 1859 to 1892, where he received an honorable mention in the first year, as well as at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1878, which contributed to his renown in France, England, and the United States in the 19th century.
You are looking at a proof by this artist, signed on the left side of the base. His subject is a running horse, near a stump in a meadow. A true moment frozen in time, the discerning eye of the collector will notice Jules Moigniez's passion and talent in seeking the most faithful expression of the realism of anatomy in action, frozen in bronze to scale.
This bronze figure has acquired a beautiful patina over time, a brown, close to antique, with virtually no wear, as demonstrated in the photos.
Lovers of bronze animal sculptures and collectors of Jules Moigniez, don't wait any longer; treat yourself to this exceptional piece today!
