Handwoven in wool circa 1910-1920, this 4x4 textile is a collectible antique Persian horse cover of tribal provenance.
On the Design:
Connoisseurs will note this piece has been opened up, similar to other nomadic Persian bags, rugs and Kilims of this irregular shape found today. The irregular shape, tailored to fit around the horse's withers and neck, recalls similar forms found in vintage tribal bags and opened-up saddlebags. What distinguishes this particular horse cover is its exceptional flat-weave construction and the densely patterned bands of colorful geometric and pictorial motifs rendered with charming abstraction. Each band serves not only a decorative purpose but also acts as a visual narrative of tribal identity and daily life. Connoisseurs of antique textiles and collectors of nomadic art will appreciate this piece’s authenticity, idiosyncratic layout, and deeply personal craftsmanship. It stands as both a functional artifact and a stunning expression of old-world tradition.
Condition:
This piece enjoys good condition for its age and origin, and is particularly suitable for wall-hanging projects, tables, scatter rug projects and similar decorative purposes.
