Hand-knotted in wool and originating from Persia, circa 1950-1960, this 3x6 antique Kirsehir rug is an exciting, rare new curation from the Rug & Kilim collection.
On the Design:
This mid-century Kirsehir rug enjoys a medallion-style field pattern set against a richly abrashed red field, lending the piece a sense of depth and subtle movement. The bold crimson and burgundy tones dominate the palette, softened by delicate accents of pink, gold, and ivory throughout the surrounding motifs. The piece is framed by a detailed border featuring a repeat of eight-pointed stars, an enduring symbol of fortune and spiritual harmony, rendered here in an unusually cheerful mix of colors. These stars, along with the varied geometric motifs that fill the field and spandrels, enrich the design with layers of cultural symbolism. The pale, stepped arch surrounding the central medallion evokes the form of a mihrab, or prayer niche, traditionally representing the “gateway to paradise”. Elegant, symbolic, and full of life, this vintage Kirsehir rug is a window into a regional tradition of storytelling through pattern and color.
Condition:
This vintage Kirsehir rug enjoys good condition for its age and origin. It is a very collectible piece, ready for the floor.
