Turned from a single piece of hardwood ;—the cup shows the warm patina and subtle grain pattern developed over generations of use and handling. Treen (from the Old English trēowen, meaning “made of tree/wood”) refers to small, hand-turned wooden objects used in everyday life before the widespread availability of metal, glass, or ceramics. This cup’s simple form ;reflects the vernacular craftsmanship of rural artisans across Britain and Europe, who relied on the lathe to create strong lightweight vessels. Today, treen objects like this are valued for their tactile qualities, natural beauty, and the way they capture the quiet elegance of utilitarian life in centuries past. This cup stands as a humble yet enduring artifact of domestic history. See less
