This vintage 5x8 Persian kilim is a mid-century Qashqai tribal rug, handwoven in wool circa 1950-1960.
On the Design:
The mid-century Persian kilim features a vibrant plaid design dominated by alternating fields of deep red, green, and creamy ivory, intersected by thin, dark stripes that create a rhythmic, geometric grid. Scattered throughout the piece are small embroidered symbols, including diamonds and floral motifs, each woven with intention and possibly representing elements of nature, protection, or tribal insignia. These decorative accents, rendered in muted orange, red, and ivory tones, punctuate the pattern with subtle elegance, while tiny hand-tied knots and tufts add texture and a sense of individuality. Connoisseurs will admire the technique, in which tribal weavers combine multiple panels into one piece with a repeat pattern. This Jajim-style flat weave is a bright, comfortable choice of rustic charm with a natural sense of movement, and vast design applications therein.
Condition:
This mid-century Persian Kilim further enjoys good condition for its age and origin, and is ready for the floor.
