Matthieu Rosianu (French/Romanian 1897-1969), gouache and ink on paper in gold metal frame, unsigned.
Born in Bucharest, Rosianu moved to Paris in 1918 where he studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts and the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs. He was influenced by the work of Cezanne and the cubists active in Paris in the 1920s. During the 1930's Rosiaun became an active member of the Communist Party and advocated openly from the Association of Writers and Revolutionary Artists. During the latter part of his career, Rosianu distanced himself from his revolutionary leanings and enjoyed a successful commercial career designing wallpapers and fabrics under the pseudonym Emile Arbor.
