About the Artist:
Frances Upson Young was a prominent California landscape painter known for her depictions of the state's varied terrain. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1870, she studied at the Cleveland School of Art before relocating to California following her marriage to attorney Robert Young. In California, she continued her artistic training with noted painters including Paul Lauritz, Lorenzo Latimer, Anna Hills, and Beatrice Whittlesey. She was active in the region’s art community as a member of the Ruskin Art Club, West Coast Arts, and the Laguna Beach Art Association. After her husband's retirement, the couple settled in Laguna Beach, where she lived until her death in 1950.
