Donald Roy Purdy is an important American artist influenced by the Barbizon School, French Impressionists, Post-Impressionists, and American 19th Century Painters. Purdy was self taught. After serving in the air force during WWII, Purdy received his Master’s in Psychology from Boston University. While in Boston, Purdy worked in an art and framing gallery. It was here that he first became interested in art as a profession. Subsequently, Purdy lived and painted most of his life in New England. He exhibited extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. His works have been exhibited in the The Britain Museum, The Butler Institute, Colby College, Maine; The University of Kansas; The Chrysler Collection; and Bernheim-Jeune Galleries, Paris. In addition, he has been honored with numerous awards including a Gold Medal from the Allied Artists. He taught painting at the Silvermine Academy of Art in Connecticut and is listed in Who’s Who in American Art.
