The Giogali lamp (compasso d’Oro mention in 1969) introduced a new concept in the use of glass: a true modular lighting system based on a single hand-worked crystal element (a sort of hook) that can be ideally replicated infinitely to create structures that appear to be cascades of light.
The hook is therefore the basic module that constitutes the entire architecture of the Giogali system (a name that derives from the Venetian “giongher”, or the noose used in the countryside to tie the cart to the yoke), Mangiarotti’s interpretation of the Venetian chandelier.
