(image) Arches Paper Olivier Debré is distinguished by his singular approach to painting, which he sees as a means of translating his sensations rather than simply imitating reality. Although inspired by the landscapes of Touraine, his art does not seek to reproduce nature figuratively. Rather than copying, he proposes “signs”, abstract representations that, in his view, capture the essence of nature while escaping its mimesis. This approach sets him apart from the group of “abstract landscape painters”. Through his “Signes-Paysages” series, Debré creates works in which spontaneity is paramount to intensify the emotion of his landscapes. This lithograph from this series perfectly illustrates his desire to capture the essence of nature through a pictorial gesture freed from all realistic constraints.
