The lamp’s ceramic base bears the pseudo-Delft “LF” mark, a deliberate homage to 17th-century Delft potteries such as De Metaale Pot under Lambertus van Eenhoorn. Richly painted in Dutch polychrome—burnt orange, cobalt blue, olive green, and golden yellow—its surface is adorned with delicate birds, floral sprays, and scrolling foliage, all hand-rendered over a tin-glazed white ground.

Louis stands out not only for his striking presence but for the historical fidelity that defines Martel’s work. Unlike earlier Desvres producers, Martel approached Delft-style revivalism with painterly precision and respect for historical forms, making his pieces both artistically refined and culturally resonant.
