Vivid pink circular portrait in acrylic on wood exploring resilience, migration, and memory through figurative realism and poetic inscription. Currency #262 is part of Natasha Lelenco’s Currencies series and stands out for its delicate rendering of a female figure in profile against a soft yet saturated pink background. The sitter’s hair is tied back in a practical ponytail, her expression calm and grounded. A discreet chalk notation (“2+3+…=”) is inscribed along the lower edge of her neck, subtly alluding to unfinished calculations or unspoken personal equations. This piece combines hyperrealist technique with conceptual nuance, imbuing a seemingly straightforward portrait with layers of personal and collective resonance. The inscription—hand-painted in Spanish and encircling the panel—reads: “Soy yo, aquí y ahora con la memoria a cuestas y la mirada en alto.” In English: “It’s me, here and now, carrying memory on my back and looking up.” The phrase affirms the presence of the self in the present moment, bearing the weight of experience yet facing forward with dignity. It speaks to self-reclamation and psychological resilience, placing memory not as burden but as foundation. Painted in acrylic on a 26 cm diameter, 2 cm thick pine wood panel, the artwork has been treated and varnished by the artist, with painted edges that complete its sculptural identity. This format allows it to be hung independently or installed as part of a modular wall display alongside other pieces in the series. As with the entire Currencies project, the piece also participates in a conceptual dual-value system: each work is individually priced—emphasizing the arbitrary nature of economic value—and may be exchanged in the future for another original work by Lelenco, positioning the painting as both a collectible and an active medium of symbolic exchange.
