The Space Age decorative movement, sometimes called the Atomic Age, is a design movement that emerged in the mid-20th century on the American West Coast, primarily in the 1950s and 1960s, and drew its inspiration from the enthusiasm and fascination for space exploration and the nuclear age.

It was a period of optimism, rapid technological progress, and a futuristic vision of the world.

One of the aesthetic characteristics is:
The organic, rounded, and cellular shapes, such as the spheres that adorn each arm of the coat rack.
The furniture is functional and modular.
Here, the coat rack is free-standing, in the shape of a cross; this choice by the designer ensures good stability.
