Model 21 chair produced in the 1970s by Herbatschek in Milan. The chair is a Thonet model from the early … Read more Model 21 chair produced in the 1970s by Herbatschek in Milan. The chair is a Thonet model from the early 1900s. Made of black-stained bent beech with a cane seat and backrest.
In 1970, the chairs were marketed by Herbatschek, which sourced them from a former Thonet factory in Poland. Herbatschek was already a retailer for Jacob & Josef Kohn in Milan in the early 20th century. After the war, in the confusion following the separation of the brand between Piltzer and the Thonet family, this retailer continued to sell chairs under the Thonet brand, purchasing them from the factory in Poland, until it had a legal dispute with Thonet France, which claimed the use of the brand. From then on, he began to brand the products with the name Herbatschek. At the end of the 1980s, he closed his warehouse and business in Milan.
The chairs are in excellent condition, both in terms of the beech frame and the straw seats. There is some minor discoloration on the frame of one chair (see photo).
