A fine Neoclassical footed basket or confectionary stand.

In solid silver with a cut glass insert.
Comprising a solid silver stand with a split swing handle above a wirework frame with molded acanthus leaves and grape vines supported by a legs with maiden head terminals and hairy paw feet and a plinth with four ball feet and miniature figural floral bouquet.
Marked to the base with a cursive 'Drewes' for Georg Drewes.
Drewes was a renowned silversmith in Northern Europe in the first half of the 19th century. His final appointment was as the royal goldsmith the King Ernst August of Hanover in the late 1830s. His royally commissioned works occasionally come to auction with recent examples in Sotheby's September 2007 ""European Collections: Paintings, Ceramics, Glass, Furniture And Other Works Of Art"" sale in Amsterdam.
This basket likely dates to the 1820s-30s.
Simply a wonderful example of Neoclassical German silver!

Condition Details:
There are light bends and indentions throughout and some irregularities (or incomplete edges) in some of the cast leaves. There are spots of persistent tarnish.
The original cut glass insert has fritting, chips, and losses around the top rim, some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
Otherwise, there is some light edge wear, some light dings and indentations here and there, some fine and light surface scratches, and other signs of light wear consistent with age.
