Married set of 6 Chiavari Neoclassical revival brass dining chairs. 2 low back with red Upholstery and 4 high back with brown upholstery. Structurally sound but can use refinishing to brass and new upholstery.
2 Low back chair dimensions: 15" wide x 19" deep x 35.5"high
4 Tall back chair dimensions: 15" wide x 19"deep x 42" high
Seat Height of 18" on all.
Chiavari chairs are named for the Italian city where they originated. This little town, located between Genoa and the Cinque Terre, is where the Descalzi brothers opened their famous furniture workshop in 1795. They would go on to produce the first of these chairs in 1807 crafted out of cherrywood, while later, many mid-century modern iterations were made of brass.
The chairs became world famous in 1953 after their use in Jacqueline and John Kennedy's wedding reception that year.
