The striking "seaweed" pattern—formed by dripping an acidic solution onto the wet slip—creates intricate, branching tendrils that seem to grow across the surface, mimicking natural forms like algae or frost. Mugs like this were everyday wares, used in British taverns and homes, yet their bold, almost abstract decoration gives them an artistic quality that collectors still admire today. Imagine it gripped by a sturdy hand, filled with ale or cider, as conversation flowed in a bustling 19th-century pub. With its rich patina and dynamic glaze work, this piece stands as a charming and enduring relic of folk pottery at its most creative. See less
