The storyboard is made from carved … Read more This gorgeous 19th century Chinese carved and gilded panel is in excellent vintage/antique condition. The storyboard is made from carved wood that has been carefully and thoroughly covered in gilding. The characters, their weapons and tools are finely carved and accented by the gilding. This striking storyboard depicts warriors preparing for battle, but if one examines the storyboard carefully, one can see other scenarios as well. Note the attention to detail in the rooflines, as well as in the animals and the various carved/gilded characters.

The gilt board is secured to a red cloth (velvet) backdrop. The carved gilt board is enclosed in a wood and glass showcase, protecting it from the climate. Two bracket hooks on the back of the case allow it to be hung on a wall.

Wood and glass are intact. Gilt is still bright. It was kept in a climate-controlled cabinet.

Case measures: 18-1/2” tall x 13-1/2” wide x 3-3/4” deep.

Purchased by my aunt and uncle while living in China in the 1970s. **They added the protective case. We are downsizing and no longer have space for this lovely piece.
