Nell would've been one of a pair; she is missing her husband, Jobson the cobbler. Nell and Jobson were the subjects of a popular 18th & 19th century stage production in England called The Devil to Pay and figures such as this immortalized them in clay. This piece has very nice molded detail, especially the lively expression on Nell's face, and bright enamel colors. Circa 1800 - 1840.

In excellent antique condition for pearlware with a small chip to the edge of Nell's headscarf, a painted-in chip to the base edge, some paint loss, and wear. See photos.
