This Lucifer desk lamp was designed by Tom Ahlström and Hans Ehrich for the Swedish manufacturer Fagerhults in 1975. Lucifer has a simple modern design. The lamp is made of ivory and black plastic. It has adjustable height and a mechanism that keeps the lampshade parallel to the desk. The arm is placed on a heavy, round base that allows 360-degree rotation. Equipped with two 43 cm fluorescent lamps, which allows for the emission of a wide and bright beam of light. The lamp was controversial from the beginning due to its name, but this did not prevent it from gaining an icon status. It is still sold in auction houses around the world. In 2000, a limited edition of Lucifer was created, which can be seen at the digital exhibition Nordiska Museets.
Tom Ahlström and Hans Ehrich are a duo of Swedish designers. In 1968, they founded A&E Design. A company that quickly gained international fame. Ahlström and Ehrich have won numerous awards and accolades. Several of their designs can still be found in museums around the world.
Founded by Bertil Svensson in 1945, Fagerhults was originally a small company in a small community in Västergötland. Svensson wanted to improve the lives of ordinary people. At that time, many handicrafts – such as knitting, sewing and wood crafts – were done at home, and good lighting was crucial to success. As society and technology developed, Fagerhults began producing lighting for public spaces. The company works closely with scientists from leading universities and continues to push the boundaries of what lighting can achieve. Although much has changed over the years, one thing remains the same for Fagerhults employees – the belief that better light leads to a better life.
