Figurative Dance I is part of a series inspired by the expressive beauty of dance. These works explore the human form through gesture, movement, love, and the intangible spaces between—sensuous portrayals that embody both strength and grace.
The foundation of my work lies in line and mark-making. I often begin by attaching charcoal or brushes to lengths of reed, amplifying the gestural quality of each stroke. From there, I move closer to the surface, working through an additive and subtractive process—building up and peeling back layers until the essence of the form emerges. The interplay between abstraction and figuration is central to my practice.
Could be purchased as a diptych with Figurative Dance II.
