Fantastic antique souvenir from mid 19thC when it was standard convention for well heeled young men to do a "Grand Tour" of Europe as part of their higher education. Maker and exact age not known.
The Luxor obelisk in France is one of a pair and this commemorative piece was made as a reminder for travelers who visited the Place de la Concorde, where the antiquity resides. This scale version is a beautiful cast and gilt solid bronze with exceptional detail throughout, covering all four sides. Also included is the original fence surround, which frequently gets lost over time.
The bronze itself measures 15.25" on a slate base measuring 5.25"x 5.25"x 1". Overall excellent antique condition with some expected age related handling patina and scattered, minimal nicking to the slate base corners. Unmarked, undated.
