Elliotts of Newbury

Elliotts was a furniture, molding, and carpentry company based in Newbury, founded in 1850 by Samuel Elliott. It soon established itself and began furnishing projects for churches, banks, and other buildings. By the early 1900s, it was already working with the most important architects of the Victorian era, such as Alfred Waterhouse, Norman Shaw, and Gilbert Scott. This company achieved national fame during World War I, producing ammunition boxes and sports gliders. After the war, the company returned to its usual market, producing mid-century furniture like these chairs, featuring skillfully turned hardwoods.
