Item description:
Cast ceramic plaque, also known as soft porcelain, i.e., ceramic with added kaolin, depicting a boy and a girl in bas-relief, holding flowers, standing back to back in traditional Tyrolean dress. Beautiful bright, vivid colors and particularly brilliant glazing due to the use of glazes rich in feldspar. The plaque is signed on the back in black underglaze by the manufacturer "La Freccia," founded by Tarcisio Tosin, with the place of production, "Vicenza," an important Italian city. The object can be attributed to Tarcisio Tosin, founder and leading exponent of the manufacturer, and can be dated to around 1940.
Useful information for evaluating the object:
Our online research shows that Tarcisio Tosin's ceramics boast numerous auction results ranging from a minimum of €200-300 for objects much smaller than our plaque to estimates of €2,000-3,000 for larger objects with more complex workmanship. We also find similar or higher prices for Tosin's items offered for sale on the most important online sales platforms for art and antiques.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
In 1932, Tarcisio Tosin, a renowned Italian artist and ceramist with numerous auction listings to his name, founded his own artistic ceramics manufacturing company, "La Freccia," in Vicenza. From its very first year of activity, the company's production received important recognition, winning a gold medal at the Annual Exhibition of the Veneto Institute of Arts and Crafts. The factory's production, which in the mid-1930s benefited from the collaboration of decorator Beniamino Spolverato, among others, consisted of sculptures with a popular and caricatural flavor and a futurist imprint, often depicting characters engaged in sports and cheerful animals, of good technical quality and with a happy choice of colors. The factory continued production until 1985.
