Artwork sold with frame ( 69 x 56.5 cm) roland coudon (1903–1954) was a french painter, draftsman, engraver, illustrator, and film poster artist. Born in bordeaux, he trained at the école des beaux-arts in paris and gained recognition for his portraiture and striking film posters. His work often blended fine art with cinematic storytelling. coudon created over a hundred posters for films distributed in france, including iconic designs for movies such as king kong (1933), frankenstein (1931), and m le maudit (1931). His posters were known for their bold, graphic style and dramatic compositions. beyond his work in film, coudon was involved in political and social causes. During the 1930s, he produced posters for the french general confederation of labour (cgt) and the french section of the workers' international (sfio), supporting spain and czechoslovakia. In 1940, he created the "je tiens les promesses\." poster, printed over three million times, featuring marshal pétain shaking hands with a worker, symbolizing industrial success. coudon also illustrated several books, including p'tite gueule (1938), clochards (1939), and gueules noires (1942), showcasing his versatility as an artist. he passed away in 1954, leaving behind a significant legacy in both the art and film industries. this piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
