This remarkable expanding table, inspired by Bruno Mathsson's renowned 'Maria Flap' design, showcases the ingenuity of 1960s European craftsmanship. Constructed from European walnut, the tabletop features stunning book-matched veneers, highlighting the wood's natural beauty. The versatile design incorporates drop leaves supported by a gateleg base, allowing the table to transition seamlessly from a compact form to an incredibly expansive surface.
It extends, almost magically, from approximately 9.5 inches to 110.25 inches in width, offering multiple length options to accommodate various settings and needs. Ideal for smaller homes, the table can be folded down and stored against a wall, maximizing space efficiency without compromising on style or functionality.
Bruno Mathsson (1907–1988) was a Swedish designer and architect celebrated for his functional and ergonomic furniture designs. In 1936, he designed the original 'Maria Flap' table, a versatile piece that could be adjusted in size to suit different spaces and purposes. Mathsson's work is characterized by a deep understanding of materials and a commitment to modernist principles.

The mix of solid and matchbook veneered European Walnut is in overall very good shape showing some surface scratches, the aforementioned small veneer repairs and some minor pressure dings (all of which can be seen in the detail photos and natural light video provided) as well as nicks and scratches on the feet. The table easily expands and contracts exactly as designed reaching a maximum length of 110.25" and collapsing down to a sleek 9.5" almost magically. The solid brass fasteners show some minor tarnishing but show no other damage. This architectural wonder is incredibly functional, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use. Please view all photos and video provided for details on this extraordinary table's current condition.
