Dining table from the ‘Post Modern’ series, designed by Italian architect & designer Piero Lissoni and produced by Glas Italia in Italy during the 1970’s. The top is a transparent glass on which 4 metal threaded rings were glued. The molded and shaped borosilicate glass legs are screwed onto the rings.
This is an exceptional piece and a real conversation starter that looks very light and delicate but weighs over 100 kilogram thanks to the 1,5 cm thick glass plate. Glas Italia, founded in 1972 in the territory of Brianza, is born from a great family tradition of glass processing and produces hi-end furniture accessories, partition walls and glass doors drawn by big names like Patricia Urquiola and Shiro Kuramata.
The Post Modern series by Lissoni were made in rectangular and round shape as well, but this is the biggest square edition available. Easily seats 8 people. The table has only a few very light, superficial scratches in the top and legs and oxidation traces on top of the metal rings, further it is in very good, original condition.
About the designer:
A humanist pur sang, that is how we can see Pierro Lissoni. Because he puts the individual at the very center of his creations. His philosophy is simple: every object must not only be aesthetically pleasing but also enrich the lives of those who interact with it.Lissoni first saw the light in Seregno, Italy in 1956 and he studied at the famous Milan Polytechnic University. He started building his career right afer graduation in 1985, with establishing his own firm in 1986: Lissoni Associati, alongside his partner Nicoletta Canesi. The studio quickly became a hub for international architectural and interior design projects.Lissoni’s talent was immediately recognized, and in 1986 he was appointed artistic director at Boffi, where he revolutionized kitchen design by breaking with traditional concepts and introducing new, innovative forms.
Over the years, his influence in the design world only grew. Lissoni has collaborated with renowned brands such as Kartell, Alessi, Cappellini, Flos, Living Divani, and Glas Italia, creating standout projects, particularly in the luxury hotel and high-end real estate sectors. In 1996 he started Graph.x, a company dedicated tot the development of graphic projects. His studio, with a staff of over 60 people is involved in architecture and interior, industrial and graphic design.
His projects include anything from a simple toothbrush to hotels in Jerusalem a 50 meter mega-yacht to the renovation of Teatro Nazionale in Milan.Lissoni’s designs are defined by minimalist forms, luxurious finishes, and a focus on simplicity, functionality, and beauty. Throughout his career, he has received prestigious international accolades, including the Good Design Award, the Red Dot Award, and the ADI Compasso d’Oro and he’s one of Milan’s greatest designers.
