Maxine Estachy, Paris (1924-2005)
Maxine was born into the Paris fashion scene in 1924. Her mother, Margarite, was a
model for Madeleine Vionne, Lanvin, and Schiaparelli. After her mother's passing in
1939, Maxine was surrounded by creativity, living with her grandmother and her Uncle
Francoise, a talented fashion illustrator. Maxine's exposure to fashion and art from a
young age influenced her artistic talents.
Maxine briefly attended Ecote Des Beaux-Art and faced criticism for her illustrative
"caricature" style. Her uncle’s 1950 ad campaign for Dior and Jacques Fath, where she
styled the models and was unexpectedly included in the illustration with her dog,
marked a turning point in her journey as a stylist. Through her Uncle, she crossed paths
with Elsa Schiaparelli, who gifted her the wool jacket her mother had once modeled.
Maxine's art is characterized by its light-heartedness and a sense of shyness, reflecting
her uniqueness. She found inspiration in painting portraits of friends and often used her
