Large wall-mounted cornucopia, blood-red majolica glazed ceramic planter, signed inside by Clément Massier. The ceramic is very hard, heavy, and thick, considering that the item weighs almost 1.4 kg. The rich blood-red glaze covering the entire cornucopia, enriched with white shades, is extremely compact and particularly beautiful. It should be noted that Clément Massier was particularly famous for this type of glazing, which is the most valuable. Clément, Jérôme, and Delphin were three brothers from a family of potters in Vallauris, in the south of France. All three worked in the company founded by their father, Jérôme Massier et Cie in Vallauris, but later worked independently. Clément, the middle brother, born in 1845, was the most important of the three.

Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
Clement Massier was born in France in 1845 into a family of ceramists. He became interested in art at an early age. In 1884, after years of work, study, and travel, he moved his share of the family business to Golfe-Juan and began producing Spanish-Moorish-influenced ceramics with iridescent silver and copper oxide glazes. After the arrival of Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer in 1887, Massier introduced fiery lustre glazes enriched with etching and painting, applying them to forms ranging from hand-built individuality to the uniformity of slip casting. He was soon at the helm of a large artistic ceramics factory and a showroom that boasted an elite international clientele. He worked in Vallauris before moving to nearby Golfe-Juan, and is remembered for his lustre glazes, which were later revived by the American company Weller. He was a leading figure in Art Nouveau and opened an art salon in Paris at the turn of the century.
