It's been quite a while since I've had (or seen) a good black and white alabaster bowl with a flared … Read more It's been quite a while since I've had (or seen) a good black and white alabaster bowl with a flared edge! This one has good markings, another bonus!

French, of course, probably made in the 20s. The nickel-plated hardware is all new and freshly plated over brass or bronze, so you'll have no concerns about rusting or like problems. In another 100 years it will look just like it does now.

The bowl has been gently sanded on the exterior to remove all scratches and such, and is now in perfect condition, as photographed. Some of the black markings are accompanied by "fissures," NOT cracks, a normal situation with this soft stone, and nothing to be concerned about. Of course you'll NEVER have the bulb closer than two inches to any of the stone, which would result in burn marks and probably cracks as well. This bowl has miraculously escaped that fate to date.

The final sanding was with wet paper, 400 grit, and then the bowl was waxed with a neutral paste wax. May I say that it probably looks better than we it was first made? Brand new wiring and socket -- use any standard-based bulb you want.

The bowl hangs down about 18 inches as shown, and measures about 13 1/2 inches in diameter. See less
