Chicago Tribune Building Framed B/W Illustration Print by Albert Richardson Vintage 70s
Framed in silver chrome with a 2.25" off white outer mat along with a .25" inch dark red inner mat, this is a black and white illustration/print of the famous Chicago Tribune Building and Tower, now a luxury condo building. The print also features Chicago's famous "Mercury" boat tour boat on the Chicago River; a sign for the "Wendella" boat tours, a famous Chicago river and lake tour boat operator; the famous Michigan Avenue bridge across the Chicago river; the Wrigley Building facade on the left side; the Intercontinental Hotel building in the background. This was a limited edition print, only a few were produced at the time making this a rare and valuable find. NOTE: the outer off white mat may show discoloration in spots due to age and may need to be replaced, the inner dark red mat is in good vintage condition. Stored in a cool dry place. Comes from a smoke-free/pet-free home.
Print with frame measures 17.5" wide x 22.5" high x .75" deep.
Opening measures 12.25" wide x 17.25" high.
About Albert Richardson:
Albert Richardson was a famous illustrator, art director and production artist in the Chicago area during the 1970s. He worked for many top advertising agencies and art studios which were plentiful at the time, commanding big money for his artwork and creative talents. The limited edition prints such as this one were coveted and collected, and sold for big money in the 1970s.
About the Chicago Tribune Building and Tower:
The Tribune Tower is a 36-story neo-Gothic skyscraper located at 435 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago, IL. Designed by Howells and Hood, it was built between 1923 and 1925 and originally served as the headquarters for the Chicago Tribune newspaper. The tower is known for its distinctive architectural style and features fragments from famous buildings and landmarks around the world embedded in its facade. The Tribune Tower is famous for several reasons: its architectural beauty, its historical significance as a landmark, and its role in shaping the modern skyscraper. It was designed as the winner of an international competition to create "the most beautiful office building in the world," and its neo-Gothic style and unique features like its incorporation of fragments from famous buildings have made it an iconic symbol of Chicago. Since 2018, it has been converted into luxury residences.
