A stunning pair of Quimper Porquier Beau potpourri urns with reticulated lids and stylized branch handles. These urns are intricately hand painted in the Rouen lambrequin style & colors using botanical motifs. The handles for the reticulated lids are topped with a fabulous raised relief butterfly on a red flower. One urn also incorporates the Quimper coat of arms on its front. Both are signed on the bottom with the intersecting PB serif mark of the Porquier Beau factory indicating they were made between 1894 - 1903.
Reference: This urn was displayed at the Les Faiences Porqier-Beau a Quimper exposition in 1998 and featured on page 30 of the exposition catalog.
The left urn is in excellent antique condition with no cracks, hairlines, crazing or chips. There are large glaze flecks (chip or loss of glaze only), glaze skips, and wear to the butterfly and edges of the lid. The urn body has glaze skips and wear to the edges of the base foot and mouth rim, and insignificant glaze pinholes on the body.
The right urn is in good antique condition with no cracks, chips to the clay body, or hairlines. There is restoration and glaze flecks on one handle, lots of glaze flecks and wear to the other handle, glaze chips and wear around the base foot, glaze chips and wear around the mouth lid seat & rim, a small glaze fleck the butterfly wing, a 1/2" area of glaze loss which is cammoflaged within a red flower, and crazing throughout the piece.
