Maxine Estachy, Paris (1924-2005)
Maxine was born into the Paris fashion scene in 1924. Her mother, Margarite, was a
model for Madeleine Vionne, Lanvin, and Schiaparelli. After her mother's passing in
1939, Maxine was surrounded by creativity, living with her grandmother and her Uncle
Francoise, a talented fashion illustrator. Maxine's exposure to fashion and art from a
young age influenced her artistic talents.
Maxine briefly attended Ecote Des Beaux-Art and faced criticism for her illustrative
"caricature" style. Her uncle’s 1950 ad campaign for Dior and Jacques Fath , where she styled the models and was unexpectedly included in the illustration with her dog,
marked a turning point in her journey as a stylist. Through her Uncle, she crossed paths
with Elsa Schiaparelli, who gifted her the wool jacket her mother had once modeled.
Maxine's art is characterized by its light-heartedness and a sense of shyness, reflecting her uniqueness. She found inspiration in painting portraits of friends their children and neighborhood families , infusing her work with warmth and familiarity See less
