A large Amish quilt of center bars pattern made from a striking combination of contrasting colors: light blue, maroon red and blush pink. Bordered with teal blue and backed with cotton. The seven bars in the center with alternate colors is confined in the thin pink border with four small squares that echo the larger ones in the outer corners. The iconic Amish composition is visually bold, amplified by the use of the colors. The surface areas feature subtle pierced stitches in scrolling feature motifs. The quilt was made in Amish County in Pennsylvania circa 1910-20s. It somehow strikes the viewer as a form of modern and abstract art
This quilt was purported purchased from Stella Rubin, a renowned dealer of antique quilt.
For an Amish quilt with similar pattern in the collection of International Quilt Museum at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
