This late 19th-century oil painting on canvas by renowned French floral artist Georges Jeannin (1841–1925) presents a close-up view of luxuriant pink, red, and white peonies, set against a calm blue sky and distant landscape. The large flower heads, rendered in delicate pinks, reds, and whites, dominate the composition, creating a striking oversized effect. Jeannin’s rich Impressionist brushwork brings dynamic movement to the abundant green foliage, capturing both the natural weight and fullness of the peonies in bloom. The composition draws the eye upward with lively, ascending stems, while the lower blooms fall gently towards the ground, heavy with lush petals. A dedicated painter of floral compositions, Jeannin exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1868 and served as President of the Société des Fleurs. He was awarded medals at the Exposition Universelle of 1889 and 1900, and his work is held in the collections of the Musée d’Orsay and the Petit Palais in Paris. Known especially for his masterful depictions of roses, Jeannin employed sweeping, richly textured impasto brushwork in the Impressionist style. Departing from his customary depictions of composed bouquets, this rare work offers a dynamic close-up of blooming peonies against a soft landscape backdrop. It is signed lower left and presented in its original giltwood frame, finely carved with elegant floral motifs. This piece has an attribution mark,
