Description:
The artwork showcases a Jemez Kachina-Hopi doll adorned with an intricately designed geometric mask featuring bold hues of teal, orange, yellow, purple, and red. The mask incorporates square and half-circle patterns, with black rectangular slits for eyes. The figure is dressed in a skirt with green leaf feathers at the waist, and two white feathers crowning the upper top. The Kachina holds gourd dance rattles in each hand, symbolizing music as a spiritual vessel for healing and transformation in Native American traditions.
Kachinas hold deep spiritual significance in Hopi and Pueblo cultures, symbolizing strength, power, and divine messages from the heavens. The kachina concept is represented in three forms: supernatural beings, ceremonial dancers, and kachina dolls.
Kevin J. McDonald is well known for his historical depictions of Native American culture, and this piece captures remarkable detail and vibrancy in the costume, mask, and ceremonial elements.
A unique and collectible piece for enthusiasts of Native American art and history.
