The bronze sheep collection of sculpture artist Jill Shwaiko stems from her study of the artwork of ancient civilizations, where she studied rock art and petroglyphs of big horn sheep.
"Rock drawings/petroglyphs are found all around the world, reflecting mankind's history and connection to both the physical and spiritual world," Shwaiko said in her artist statement. She also noted that as she developed the images in bronzes and oil pastels, she felt the sheep speak to her, which affected her art. "I tip their heads upward for pride and lower them for perseverance," she said. "The horns that go backwards represent swiftness, while the legs reflect a gracefulness."
