Known for his non-conformist style and diverse talents, ranging from painting to sculpting, and even theatrical production, Mihail Chemiakin spent much of his childhood in occupied East Germany. His sometimes almost otherworldly manifestations elicited some unwelcome attention from the authorities. Having experiences artwork confiscation, and even confinement in a psychiatric facility, settled in France and later the United States. He returned to France in 2007, where he lives to this day.
This somewhat grotesque interpretation of Igor Stravinsky seems to capture the energetic and often pejorative nature of the great composer, known for his outbursts and tantrums especially in rehearsals. One of Chemiakin's most popular lithographs is a 1990 caricature of this sculpture entitled, simply, Stravinsky.
