I actually prefer this painting to the very slightly larger one by Murillo that sold for $11,600 at auction (Hargesheimer & Günther) in 2009. It is oil on a wood panel, and is sharp, bold and detailed. I love the contrasts between light and dark. If you look closely, there is a solitary figure standing in a thin spray of light coming through the forest on the right size of the meandering river. Murillo was born in Durango, Mexico in 1840 and influenced other Mexican artists with his masterful grasp of European techniques. 19" x 25" (9" x 15.5" panel only). Wonderful frame.
Proudly presented by Guy Lyman Fine Art, New Orleans, with our firm guarantee.
