Description of the item:
Oil painting on canvas applied to wood, depicting a view of a harbor with a pier, houses, and boats with mountains in the distance, with a French-style gilded frame decorated with gold leaf, contemporary with the painting, decorated with bas-relief on the four corners and on the inner edge. Art Nouveau frame that was very popular between the end of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century, especially in France. Good patina, especially on the back of the painting. Excellent depth of the work, note the beauty of the cloudy sky and the sea slightly rippled by the wind and the slightly moving reflections of the boat and the pier poles on the surface of the water. Signed lower right in red with the painter's initials "E. A. Greppi" and dated 1911 or 1919, unfortunately the date is not clearly legible. The work is attributable to Antonio Greppi, an Italian painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries of considerable artistic importance.
