Ruth J. Emilie Lowinsky (nee Hirsch, 1893-1958), was a Jewish English society hostess and food writer. Her husband, the surrealist painter Thomas Esmond Lowinsky (1892-1947), provided illustrations for this, her first book. published, as the dedication states 'For Each Other and our Greedier Friends'. The book, now famous for its examples of pre-War party food, is divided up into 'Menus'.
