Lovely antique 8” x 10” original, signed Preston Willis (1853 - 1932) oil painting of a clipper ship at sea in a gold bamboo-motif frame with black velvet and gold fillet. The artist and art instructor was born in Marion, OH on 4/10/1853 and died on 12/10/1932 in Riverside, CA. He is known for his gorgeous seascapes. This pearl of a painting is a fine example of his work: perfect for your classical coastal decor!
The painting is in excellent condition, with soft, luminous colors in water and sky and the precise yet dynamic brushwork for which Willis is known. The frame has areas of wear, age, and leaf repair as seen in the photos.
