Louis Icart (French, 1888-1950) "Panier De Pommes", limited edition lithograph. Pencil signed lower right, numbered A18 lower left. Framed under glass.
Icart was born in Toulouse, France and became interested in art at an early age. He was drawn to fashion design at a time when the fashion industry was undergoing a revolution from conservative styles of the 19th century to simpler, modern design concepts. He began by working in major fashion studios. While fighting in the First World War, it is said that he sketched on every available surface. Icart moved to Paris after the war to concentrate on painting and printing production. He is known primarily for his portrayal of women in sensual, thoughtful poses. By the 1920s, the Art Deco movement had gained great popularity in Paris, the era and oevre with which he is most identified.
