18th Century French Neoclassical Large Split Panel Wall Mirror.
Impressive late 18th century giltwood mirror with original split panel. The gilded wood frame reflects the worn effect of about 250 years of cleaning. The remaining red bole, base for the gold leaf, adds character to the authentic antique mirror. Split panel mirrors gained prominence during the 18th century in Europe, particularly in French grand homes and chateaus. It also allowed the creation of larger, more dramatic mirrors.
Condition is fair. Original panels with some foxing and oxidation in a well worn wood frame.
