This exquisite antique statue represents a Bodhisattva, a revered figure in Chinese Buddhist tradition, symbolizing compassion, enlightenment, and selfless service. Cast from solid iron with a black finish, the statue showcases the traditional technique of gilding—applying a delicate layer of gold leaf to create a radiant and divine appearance while preserving the structural integrity of the underlying metal.

Provenance:
This piece was acquired directly from the estate of Dorothy Louise Alderson "Dori" Starkey (July 16, 1935 – January 27, 2021) of Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego. The piece was prominently displayed in her living room and remained part of her private collection for many years. Dori Starkey was a passionate art and antique collector, as well as an accomplished artist herself. She played a key role in the founding of the Rancho Santa Fe Art Guild and was an active member of the La Jolla Art Association. See less
