Originally introduced in the early 1950s by Charles and Ray Eames, the DSX (Dining Side Chair on X-base) featured an X-shaped base. In 1954, this was replaced by the more stable and versatile H-shaped base, though the DSX name remained unchanged.

Design Features
Shell: Molded fiberglass reinforced plastic, available in various colors.

Base: Tubular steel H-base, typically finished in black oxide or zinc plating.

Feet: Evolved from "Domes of Silence" to rubber boot glides, and later to white nylon self-leveling glides .

Upholstery: Some models featured removable hopsack covers designed by Alexander Girard, while others had permanent upholstery .​
