According to the Victoria and Albert museum, a "Nanking warming plate is an antique warming plate, typically made of ceramic, that was used to keep food warm. It was often decorated with blue and white porcelain, and the name Nanking comes from the city of Nanjing, China, where this type of porcelain was made. These plates usually had a cavity underneath the main plate where hot water could be placed to keep the food warm."
This one is slightly octagonal and measures 9.5 inches across and 10 inches across to reservoirs x 2.5 inches tall.
