This table came out of a meticulous estate. All the furnishings were purchased by the owner's interior designer at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago in the 1970s and 1980s.

The owner said the table is covered in a Japanese rice paper that was then lacquered. It is reminiscent of Karl Springer's style. The rice paper (or parchment) gives the table a unique lovely layered feeling. It has shades of cream, light gray and a darker gray. The pedestal base is also covered in the same rice paper and lacquered. There is a metal band (brushed chrome or stainless) at the base of the table. Most people that look at the table from a distance assume it's marble but it is much warmer. It is simply stunning. It is a piece that you won't find again. Pictures don't do it justice.

The table is in very good condition given its age. There is some minor crazing to the lacquer but it shows beautifully. It is a rare and unique piece that would add color and warmth to any space.

Could be used as a dining table or as a game table. The chairs that were purchased with the table (upholstered barrel back chairs on swivels) are available in a separate listing. They look like they were never (or rarely) used and they are a perfect complement to the table. See less
