C.1960 large hand painted ceramic cup and saucer set designed by Stig Lindberg for Gustavsberg of Sweden. Lindberg was well known in the mid-20th century for his whimsical and colorful designs depicted in pottery, glass and textiles. His career as art director of Gustavsberg from 1949 until 1980 was a period of boundless creativity and certainly solidified his place as one of the most influential Scandinavian designers of his era. This oversized cup could really be used as a bowl and features a lively green striped pattern that is replicated on the coordinating saucer. Both pieces are signed and were acquired from the estate of a Scandinavian art pottery collector.
Very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
The cup and saucer as a unit measures 3" tall x 7" deep and 7" wide. The cup on its own measures 2.38" tall x 6" wide at the handle and 5" deep. The saucer on its own measures 7" wide x 7" deep x .75" tall.
