Marino Marini (ITALIAN / SWITZERLAND, 1901 - 1980) marker and watercolor mixed media on paper depicting a horse. Signed to lower right. Mounted in a gold painted wooden frame with mat behind glass screen.
Marini (1901–1980) was born in Pistoia, Tuscany and he initially trained as a painter at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. However, he soon shifted his interest to sculpture where he found his true calling. Marini is one of Italy’s most significant 20th century sculptors and is known for his expressive depictions of the human figure and equestrian themes which he created as dynamic and powerful forms. Marini’s sculptures often depict the relationship between horse and rider, perhaps representing his Italian heritage and cultural connection to ancient Etruscan art.
